How the calculator works
Enter each appliance’s running wattage, startup wattage, quantity and daily operating hours. We estimate total energy demand, distinguish instantaneous output needs from battery storage, and explain the assumptions used in the estimates.
Assumptions matter
Battery state of charge, AC inversion losses, load cycling, temperature and manufacturer surge-duration limits can change actual performance. The calculator is an educational screening tool, not an equipment guarantee or electrical installation plan.
What to do with your estimate
Use the results to shortlist equipment with an adequate energy reserve and continuous output margin. Check product documents for surge duration and compatibility, particularly for compressors, air conditioning and medically necessary devices.
Calculate your power needs
Default specifications represent manufacturer-stated 2500X figures, not guaranteed usable performance. Edit all values for another generator. Every appliance entered is counted as running simultaneously in the power check.
Peak power rating does not verify surge duration. The 2500X’s stated 5,000 W surge is for only 0.1 second.

How the calculator estimates runtime
The calculator totals running watts for simultaneous loads, multiplies watts by desired hours to estimate energy demand, and compares that demand with a user-selected usable fraction of nominal battery energy. It screens startup demand using the largest entered starting-watt increment, which is an approximation rather than a full surge waveform analysis.
Why these results are only a planning estimate
Refrigerator duty cycling, AC inverter losses, battery age, ambient temperature and the order in which appliances start can materially change results. For safety-critical loads, obtain manufacturer-specific compatibility confirmation and use appropriate backup redundancy.
How to interpret the results
Compare the simultaneous running load against continuous inverter capacity and the startup screen against published surge limits. A numerical pass on both tests is not a promise: a generator's surge duration, AC waveform and device requirements can make an otherwise plausible combination fail.

Frequently asked questions
How long can a generator run a refrigerator?
Battery duration depends on usable Wh and the refrigerator’s average power demand; a generator’s output watts alone do not answer runtime.
Can a solar generator run a house?
A portable battery generator may run selected essentials, but whole-home operation depends on actual load, capacity, approved transfer equipment and professional system design.
